Many people may assume that color PPF and vinyl wrap are the same thing, when in reality it’s quite the opposite.

While both can change the look of your vehicle, colored paint protection film offers a higher degree of durability and protection for the paint underneath. Vinyl wrap is a much thinner material – usually made from a vinyl plastic material called polyvinyl chloride. It is generally viewed as a strictly cosmetic modification and works great for shorter term solutions in the 3-5 year range before it’s time to remove or replace. It is more prone to fading or peeling than PPF, especially when the vehicle is constantly under exposure to the elements. 

On the other hand, colored PPF is a thicker, self-healing film that offers the same level of protection as clear PPF and lets you change your vehicle’s appearance – truly the best of both worlds! It is a much thicker film at 6-10mil versus the 2-3mil thickness of vinyl wrap. Because of this, it guards against rock chips, scratches, swirl marks, and UV damage. It can even last up to 10 years or more with the proper care and attention. As an added bonus, colored PPF offers a richer, paint-like finish that many vehicle owners prefer over vinyl wrap.
